Additional Accomplishments & Firsts
June 2019 marks the 10 year anniversary of Dr. Reddy establishing Louisiana Cornea Specialists in south Louisiana. Over the last 10 years, Dr. Reddy has focused his practice on innovation and advancing eye care in the region. As we have grown over the decade, Dr. Reddy has completed nearly 5000 surgeries, growing every year. Here is a list of our advances and achievements over the first decade:
First partial thickness cornea transplant in St Tammany parish.
Dr. Reddy began routinely performing Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty in both Covington and Slidell. He was one of the first surgeons to develop and perform this surgery while in Chicago in 2005.
First surgeon to implant the J&J Technis ZCB00 single piece IOL
The Technis ZCB00 implant has become the leading cataract surgery implant lens in south Louisiana Dr. Reddy was the first local surgeon offered to implant this lens when it was introduced to the US market.
Implantation of the Technis ZMB00 mutlifocal IOL
First surgeon in south Louisiana offered the implantation of (at that time) the newest innovation in intraocular lens technology. The ZMB00 multifocal IOL was a clear advancement in mutlifocal IOL technology at that time, and the first advancement in several years.
New office to allow improved patient experience
We designed and built a new office better suited to advanced patient care.
Implantable Miniature Telescope for AMD
The only surgeon certified to implant the IMT for patients with age related macular degeneration. This implant can allow significant visual improvement to patients afflicted with advance macular degeneration.
Femtosecond Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery
First St Tammany surgeon to offer and routinely perform femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery. The femtosecond laser allows for more precision and less inflammation, allowing for quicker recovery and potentially fewer complications. As of 2019, there are 6 femtosecond lasers in the New Orleans area with numerous surgeons now offering laser cataract surgery.
iStent MIGS surgery
First surgeon to perform Micro Invasive Glaucoma Surgery in south Louisiana. Dr. Reddy implanted the iStent -- the smallest FDA approved implant -- to assist in treating glaucoma.
Implant of Technis Toric IOL
First surgeon invited to implant the Technis Toric intraocular lens for the treatment of astigmatism in conjunction with cataract surgery. The Technis Toric IOL has become the leading toric implant in south Louisiana.
Descemet's Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty
First surgeon to perform the latest advancement in partial thickness cornea transplant surgery. Currently the highest volume DMEK surgeon in south Louisiana.
Invited to European Cornea Society conference in Barcelona
Participated in round-table discussions regarding DMEK along with Dr. Melles. Dr. Melles developed and popularized DMEK from his institute in the Netherlands.
Implantation of the Symfony EDOF IOL
The Symfony IOL is a leapfrog over current IOL technologies. Rather than use “light-splitting” to improve near vision with a decrease in contrast and low-light vision, this IOL uses advanced optical techniques to extend the depth of field (EDOF), allowing more spectacle independence (freedom from glasses) after cataract surgery. This IOL has become one of the leading IOLs in the world, with no current equivalent competitor worldwide.
Intrascleral Haptic fixation of IOL
This technique, described by Shin Yamane (Japan) is becoming the leading techique for placement of an IOL in complex eyes. This technique allows for vision correction in eyes that have undergone trauma or surgical complications and a traditional intraocular lens placement is not possible. Dr. Reddy is the leading surgeon in this technique, performing several every month.
First surgeon to implant the next-generation MIGS device for glaucoma treatment.
Presented the Achievement Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology as recognition for over 10 continuous years of contributions to ophthalmic literature and education.
Micro-pulse transcleral photo-coagulation for glaucoma
This non-invasive micro-pulse treatment for glaucoma uses a laser probe to reduce intraocular pressure, thereby either reducing eye medications or delaying invasive surgical treatment.
2019First surgeon to offering Descemet’s Stripping Only for Fuchs dystrophy
This innovative surgery, in combination with topical medication, can improve vision in a patient with Fuchs dystrophy without the risks of a cornea transplant.
Dr. Reddy thanks his patients, referring doctors, staff and family for working together with the mutual goal of helping patients see better.
